Online Distance Learning
ODL is founded on the principle that the learner is separated from the teacher in terms of time and space. The learners may also participate in the lecture and group discussions in real time with their peers and the course instructor. Students study at their own pace and manage their own learning goals through a Learner Management System (LMS) which is available 24-7.
ODL programs will benefit the working adult as well as young learners. The News Straits Times (December 19, 2018) anticipates that 100% ODL would even enable a full time housewife to acquire a Bachelor degree while juggling house hold chores as much chance as a busy senior executive or a small time entrepreneur. The education industry has never been transformed in radical ways as much as it has today. Imagine having ‘classmates’ from across the world who may not necessarily be fresh school leavers but corporate leaders, cooks and perhaps even a star football player like Neymar. Imagine what you may learn from this extraordinary classroom set up. Students will find themselves learning from students from across the world, and hence would draw upon the experiences and cross-cultural ways of tackling issues or a group assignment collectively. Students will develop new ways of thinking, new habits, new worldviews, new preferences and of make new friends from this IR4.0 education game change.
GUC also incorporates design thinking in its various programs and students will learn to apply and adopt such innovative thinking skills in their everyday lives. This method of thinking allows the learner to treat others with respect and emphathy. Design thinkers do not work in siloes but they embrace and accommodate the views and the needs of others. It trains you to reframe your thinking pattern, create prototypes or models, allows you to test your products on your clients or customers and enables you to redesign your products. One can never go wrong with design thinking.
